Recap October 2007

10/22 finished 6/45 in a MTT. Gave away my chip lead on this horrible read (took him for a bluff) http://www.pokerhand.org/?1620305. Also, I got AA, AK, AA nearly back-to-back-to-back, but no action. Grades: early A, middle B, end B+, short-stack C-, big-stack B.

10/24 working on attitude and perspective like I mentioned last week. Found this article helpful: http://www.pocketfives.com/EC4C1918-D1C2-4373-95F9-19FC7F541C23.aspx

10/25 finished 17/45 in a MTT. Played reasonably well. I was 8th when I busted. Pulled off a decent bluff here http://www.pokerhand.org/?1628718, but busted on this http://www.pokerhand.org/?1628754. Guess he played it well.

10/25 won a STT on the river, although I shouldn't have needed it: http://www.pokerhand.org/?1628956

10/26 bubbled a 2-table tourney on the usual bad beats. down to 5, i bust out on bubble with these bad beats:
bad beat #1: http://www.pokerhand.org/?1632249
bad beat #2: http://www.pokerhand.org/?1632255

10/15 played a home game, results and thoughts are below in a prior post. Got the hand history creator software working well enough to reconstruct a hand. I'm surprised the parser liked it as much as it did. The suits and stacks are not perfectly accurate, but the position and action is to the best of my memory. One such hand is here http://www.pokerhand.org/?1595039

10/16 forced myself to relax in the hot tub while my foes and homeys battled it out online.

10/17 played 2 STTs, busted both as the favorite. See hand history link for details.
10/17 finished 2/45 in a MTT. Played a little better mid and late. Lost some key showdowns to underdogs, didn't get action on some monsters, had some small pairs hold up to overs, and managed to sqeak out 2nd.

10/20 Got destroyed in everything. it all started after i tilted when one player was bullying the table with an incredible loose range and was hitting. against me he shoves against my AJo. Knowing the player is everything in poker - I knew I had him crushed. But LP pushes over the top. Squeezed and upset, I call. LP shows KK and the crushed opp a meager A9o. I bust out steaming over my own stubbornness. One doesn't improve at this game by allowing this to happen.
In the other tourneys I ran into huge opposition no matter what hand I had. Example: KcKh UTG, get called by two opps. flop 568h, all the chips go in. one opp flops the straight, the other the nut flush. Other examples, ran into AK with AQ and AJ. Also had some bluffs blow up on me.

Not a night to remember at all. Maybe I'll just take up wingsuit flying

Studying Some Good New Material

I'm still losing far more often than I'd like to. I have bubbled the last 3 out of 4 SnGs due to some bad luck after mounting some nice comebacks.

I've recently come across some material that I believe will help my game. I won't reference the sources here, but the material is available online and has likely been read already by my foes. I'll be trying these strategies in my next sessions, and the results will be posted here.

...well, so far no good results. Had some bad beats mow me down. I'll need to assess this new strategy over a longer term obviously.

...just finished a week of playing nightly. I had just 2 first place SnG finishes and some low ITM finishes in larger tournaments, so another losing week overall. I think I'm playing well, but the results just aren't there. The new strategy has helped a bit, but there's still a long way to go.
